Advent: Hope

Updated: Feb 25, 2023

Time and again throughout Scripture, we see calls to remember what the Lord has done – and is doing – in our lives. Each week during Advent, we share videos highlighting the stories of church members in correlation with the traditional advent themes: Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. Though each story is unique, they all point to the faithfulness of Jesus and the assurance of our salvation.

This week, the first of Advent, we look to Jesus as our hope – in this world and the next.

John and Naomi Hillman, along with their two daughters, Evy and Annika, have attended Grace Road since the summer of 2020. Before they met, both experienced redemptive chapters in their lives and were brought to faith in Jesus. As a couple, the Lord steadily continued drawing them unto Himself, and they were married in 2014.

In 2019, John was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease, a hereditary disease that gradually destroys the brain and causes physical and mental breakdown over time. Experiencing Huntington’s is likened to having ALS, Parkinson’s, and Alzheimer’s all at once.

According to John and Naomi, their belief in the sovereignty and goodness of God has deepened their peace and joy, despite the trials of John’s disease.

“HD has given us innumerable opportunities to speak of the hope we have in Christ both now and into eternity,” Naomi shared.
